Much has been said about the new cheaper Netflix modality that will allow us to watch content with ads in between if we want to pay less for a membership, and the news today is not very good.
It turns out that, if we already knew that Microsoft was going to be in charge of joining Netflix to make this modality a reality, now it has been the company’s CEO, Ted Sarandos, who has declared to Deadline that this new modality will not grant access to the entire content catalog of the platform.
Instead, we will have access to the entire catalog of Netflix original series, but third-party licensed content will not be available in its entirety for those who opt for the cheapest mode, which will be available in early 2023.
This new modality will not be available to everyone at first either, since markets where advertising spending is higher have been privileged.
Thus, without having more details on how this new modality will work, we can already say that, as things are going, people will not be very happy to pay less to see less content and a more limited catalog for sure.
