Very soon Instagram will require you to take a selfie video to prove your age

Earlier this week, Instagram announced that it was testing new options to test the age of users for its verification system when creating an account. Apparently one of the options could make users take a selfie video to prove your age.

The social network has stated that it is testing two new ways to verify one’s age, as well as requiring them to upload their proof of identity online.

For this verification system, the company will partner with yoti, a company that specializes in online age verification and also ensures the privacy of users. Once the user uploads the video, Yoti’s technology estimates the user’s age based on facial features. After this, Meta and Yoti will delete the image once the age has been verified.

Aside from this, Instagram also plans to allow people to select three mutual followers to confirm the user’s age. However, the people who certify the verification process must be at least 18 years old.

Instagram is bringing this system after it stopped the launch of Instagram Kids last year. This app was meant to be dedicated to children and would require parental approval by providing ad-free and age-appropriate content on its platform.

At the moment it is not known when this method of age verification will be implemented, but it is expected to be soon.
